19/February/2021 - Assisted Evacuation Ivanhoe Apartments - "A" Shift

Incident # 21-01256 - County Fire-Rescue and Sheriff's Deputies assisted City of Walterboro responders evacuating some residents from the Ivanhoe Apartments at 311 Ireland Creek Dr. Friday morning 19-February. At 10:37, WPD requested assistance with transporting residents who were unable to leave their apartments due to flooding. Heavy rains in the past week have caused several rivers and creeks to flow past their banks blocking roads and stranding residents. There was approximately three feet of water across Ireland Creek Dr. at the entrance to the apartments. Fire-Rescue was bringing ARFF 19 to the location, but the Sheriff's Office used their high water vehicle due to it being closer to the apartments. Firefighters and Law Enforcement officers from all four agencies used hip waders to walk into the apartments and assist the residents. The residents were assisted to the high water vehicle and driven out to higher ground.

WPD, WFD, Sheriff's Office and County Fire Units Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Car 107 and Car 112 responded. Police Chief Wade Marvin served as Incident Commander.
