Incident # 21-03148 - A two vehicle, high speed MVC on Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) south of Drawdy Rd sent seven people to the hospital Tuesday evening 04-May. The accident was reported to 9-1-1 at 20:56 during a thunderstorm. A southbound Ford F-250 towing a loaded car carrier collided with a passenger car near head-on. The vehicles struck the left fender to the left fender, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The southbound truck crossed into the northbound ditch causing the trailer to overturn, spilling the three cars it was carrying, each of which overturned. Debris littered the highway closing the road in both directions. Medic 7 and Engine 7 arrived and blocked the highway. A second Fire-Rescue Ambulance was requested. Six people in the pickup truck, including several children, received non life threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan also received non life threatening injuries. All seven patients were transported to Colleton Medical Center. The highway remained closed for two hours until it could be cleared of the cars and debris. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
