22/May/2021 - Shooting Incident with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Incident # 21-03535 - Two men received injuries during a shooting incident and subsequent vehicle accident on I-95 near the southbound Rest Area Saturday morning 22-May at 05:17. Initial information was confusing, with reports of the incident being on I-95 near the 45 mile marker and then the SB Rest Area at the 47 mile marker. Responding Deputies located a man in the southbound rest area with non-life threatening injuries. Fire-Rescue Medic 1 met with officers and treated the man at the scene. He was transported to Colleton Medical Center. Other Deputies located a vehicle deep in the wooded median near the 46 mile marker south of the Rest Area. The vehicle appeared to have left the Interstate at a high rate of speed and struck several trees causing heavy damage. The vehicle had also been shot several times. An adult male was also located with multiple gunshot wounds and was in critical condition. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating his injuries. A medical helicopter was requested. CARE Flight responded and landed in the parking area of the northbound Rest Area a mile north of the accident location. The man was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident and the SC HIghway Patrol was also on the scene. 

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 105 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
