CCFR August 12 2021

Incident # 21-05775 - A 48 year old Summerville man passed away from injuries received in a single vehicle accident in the 12000 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) just north of the Cottageville Town Limit Thursday afternoon 12-August at 12:30. Witnesses advised the 2010 Nissan Titan pickup truck left the roadway and collided with a tree. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later to find the unrestrained male driver unconscious and trapped in the vehicle. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man while other crew members used Holmatro Rescue tools to free the man. He was in critical condition, so a medical helicopter responded and landed in the field in front of Cottageville Elementary School a couple of miles from the accident scene. He was transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 9 to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. Medic 19 was returning from another response, stopped and the crew assisted with his care. The man was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The staff at Trident worked diligently to improve his condition, however he passed away about three hours later. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Lt. KC Campbell served as Incident Commander.
