05/December/2021 - Fatal MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Incident # 21-08728 - A 43 year old Weston Florida man was killed in a single vehicle accident on I-95 near the 48 mile marker NB, Sunday afternoon 05-December. Witnesses advised the  northbound pickup truck that was pulling a flat-bed trailer, suffered a rear tire blowout causing the truck to go off of the right shoulder and strike several trees. The truck flipped over in the ditch trapping both occupants. Several motorists, including an off-duty flight nurse stopped to assist. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find the truck upside down in the ditch with the roof almost flat. Crews were able to extricate the adult male passenger from the passenger's side window. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Another crew used Holmatro Rescue Equipment to remove the driver's door to gain access to the adult male driver. He had no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. Two medical helicopters had been requested. CARE Flight flew to the scene and landed on the northbound lanes north of the accident. The passenger was transferred from Medic 13 to the Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The second helicopter was diverted to a second accident at the 53 mile marker. Units were on the scene for 3 hours. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. 

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
