19/February/2022 - Structure-Woods Fire - "C" Shift

Incident # 22-01242 - A mobile home was destroyed and approximately 1 acre burned when an unattended debris pile fire spread to the building and woods. At 17:44 Saturday afternoon 19-February a passing motorist reported the mobile home burning in the 1400 block of Springhill Road south of Green Pond. Engine 6 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home had already collapsed and approximately one acre of grass and woods was on fire. A tractor from the Forestry Commission was requested. The home, which was vacant, was located down a long driveway, well off the road. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed 250 feet of 3 inch line down the driveway and gated it off to two 1-3/4 handlines to reach the fire. Brush 6 also responded and was able to drive into the wooded area to work on the head of the fire. Firefighters worked for 40 minutes extinguishing the fire in the structure and woods. The metal roof had to be removed by hand to reach the burning remains of the trailer underneath. The Forestry tractor plowed a double fire line around the perimeter of the fire. A neighbor advised crews that several people had been clearing the land earlier in the day and were burning the debris. Evidence at the scene supported that the fire spread from a debris pile.

Engine 2, Engine 6, Tender 2, Tender 6, Tender 25, Medic 6, Medic 13, Brush 6, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
