Incident # 22-01669 - Thursday afternoon continued to be busy with multiple multi-acre woods fires in various areas of the county. The larger responses involved fires on Poinsetta Ln where a multi-acre fire endangered several homes. Nine Fire-Rescue units and Forestry units worked the fire for several hours. A large multi-acre control burn off of Oregon Rd in the Pynes Community got out of hand, requiring Fire-Rescue units and Forestry to intervene to protect homes in the area. At 16:57 an unattended field fire spread to the woods behind the homes in the 1800 block of Drain Rd north of the Town of Smoaks. First arriving Fire-Rescue units advised the rapidly spreading fire had reached a power line right of way and quickly spread endangering approximately nine homes and multiple vehicles. A structural response was assigned to the incident bringing 13 additional Fire Units and Firefighters to the scene. Crews deployed multiple handlines at many locations to protect the homes along an approximately 3/10 of a mile stretch of the road. The Forestry Commission sent two tractors and a Ranger to the fire as well. Firefighters were able to protect all of the structures from damage. Units were on the scene for three hours.
