26/June/2022 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac - "C" Shift

Incident # 22-04935 - Two vehicles collided head-on in the 800 block of Cottageville Hwy Sunday morning 26-June at 00:27. A northbound Ford pickup truck crossed into the south bound lane and struck a Nissan Maxima head-on. Both vehicles received heavy damage. The Nissan was thrown into the southbound ditch, trapping the female driver. The Ford overturned blocking both lanes of Cottageville Hwy. The driver of the Ford received non-life threatening injuries. The female driver of the Nissan received multiple traumatic injuries. Bystanders assisted the woman until Fire-Rescue arrived. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the woman in the wreckage. Other crew members stabilized the car, then used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver's side doors. A Holmatro Pentheon RAM was used to displace the dashboard off of the driver so she could be extricated from the car. A medical helicopter was requested and Meducare responded, landing at the nearby Lowcountry Regional Airport. The patient was transported in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 with additional personnel onboard to assist with her care. She was transferred to the flight crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Cottageville Hwy in the area of the accident was closed for 1-1/2 hours until the wreckage and debris could be removed. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue Medic 1. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Engineer-EMT Andy O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
