31/October/2022 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift

Incident # 22-08468 - Two people perished in a single vehicle MVC in the 1700 block of Hiers Corner Road, Monday evening 31-October. 9-1-1 received reports of the accident at 18:17. A 1999 Ford Mustang was traveling north on Hiers Corner Road and dropped off of the southbound shoulder after a curve. The vehicle struck several mailboxes, overcorrected and crossed back to the northbound side of the road. The car entered the ditch where it flipped over ejecting the two unrestrained adult occupants. The car then came to rest on top of the two adults. Witnesses to the accident immediately went to their aid and made several unsuccessful attempts to lift the car off of the victims. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later. Crews began treating the boy and placed him in an ambulance. A school teacher comforted the boy until he was transported to Colleton Medical Center. Firefighter-Paramedics used a winch from a rescue truck to roll the car off of the adult patients. Both suffered multiple traumatic injuries and had no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. Hiers Corner Road in the area of the accident was closed for three hours. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC.
