16/October/2022 - Semi Truck Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 22-08038 - A semi-truck was destroyed on I-95 Sunday afternoon 16-October near the 50 mile marker southbound. 9-1-1 received the first report of the disabled truck at 14:27. The caller advised the rear wheels on the truck were burning. Responding units could see a thick column of black smoke four miles away. On arrival, Engine 1 found the Kenworth cab and chassis fully involved and approximately half of the box style trailer was involved. The truck was hauling a load of apples. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed three handlines to combat the fire. Two additional stations were assigned to the incident for personnel and Tenders. Southbound traffic was stopped for approximately 25 minutes due to flames, exploding tires and debris. Traffic backed up several miles on both sides of I-95. One lane was reopened at about 15:00. Crews were on the scene for over two hours. The truck driver was not injured. 

Engine 1, Tender 13, Tender 26, Medic 13, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
