04/February/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift

Incident # 23-00909 - A Walterboro man was critically injured in a single car MVC in the 400 block of Bedon Road Saturday afternoon 04-February at 18:39. The northbound Hyundai Sonata was traveling at a high rate of speed, when it failed to negotiate a curve and entered the southbound ditch. The car traveled in the ditch until it struck a driveway culvert, became airborne and struck a large pine tree approximately four feet off of the ground. The car then landed in the middle of the road, overturned twice and flipped over in the northbound ditch. The unrestrained driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the car. The spare tire was found embedded in a wooden privacy fence. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Hydraulic Rescue Tools to extricate the driver. No medical helicopters were immediately available. He was quickly treated at the scene, then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Two additional personnel assisted with his care during the transport. Bedon Road was blocked for about 1-1.2 hours until the accident scene was cleared. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. 

Engine 19, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Lt. Cody Hutto served as Incident Commander.
