06/February/2023 - MVC with Air Evac - "A" Shift

Incident # 23-00968 - A two vehicle high speed MVC sent three people to a Trauma Center and two people to Colleton Medical Center Monday evening 06-February. At 19:12, two small cars collided at the intersection of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) and the SB Exit Ramp from I-95. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage with one car having nearly 12 inches of intrusion into the passenger space. Five patients were injured. Three additional Fire-Rescue ambulances were assigned to the incident. The driver of a Nissan Sentra suffered multiple injuries, including a head injury. He required advanced airway management to save his life. A medical helicopter was requested and CARE Flight landed at the parking lot of the Circle C Truck Stop. The man was stabilized at the scene, then flown to the Trauma center at Trident Medical Center. Two other patients were also  transported by Fire-Rescue ambulances to Trident. The remaining two patients received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Augusta Hwy was blocked for approximately two hours. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 

Engine 5, Engine 26, Engine 27. Medic 1, Medic 7, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 110 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
