10/March/2023 - Structure Fire Mutual Aid Response - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-01804 - Fire-Rescue responded as mutual aid to assist the City of Walterboro Fire Dept. with a working fire in the "C" building of Hillcrest Apartments located at 518 Sniders Hwy. at 16:30, Friday afternoon 10-March. The fire in the eight unit, two story structure was reported to have heavy smoke coming from the building and the possibility of entrapment. Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on arrival. Crews deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the fire. No one was found to be trapped in the building, however one resident was evacuated from a first floor apartment. One adult female resident was treated at the scene by County Firefighter-Paramedics from Medic 1. She did not require ambulance transportation to the hospital. Fire-Rescue transported one City Firefighter to Colleton Medical Center with a leg injury. He was in stable condition. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the City of Walterboro. Several residents were displaced. 

County Engine 1, Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. City Engine 1, Engine 2 and Engine 3 responded. WFD Fire Marshal Chris Crosby served as Incident Commander.
