02/May/2023 - Prom Promise Demonstration

Several First Responder Agencies participated in the "Prom Promise" demonstration at the Colleton County High School Tuesday morning 02-May at 10:00. The demonstration depicted an auto accident with several fatalities. A car was set up in the parking area with several student actors filling in the roles of the victims. Each victim was mulaged with simulated injuries and responders arrived to work the scene and treat the injured. Firefighter-Paramedics performed a simulated extrication and removed the doors and roof of the car, while other responders triaged the victims. The Sheriff's Deputies investigated the accident, performed a field sobriety test on the driver and then took her into custody. The CARE Flight helicopter landed on the practice field and one patient was flown from the scene. The County Coroner and a Deputy Coroner also responded. The incident was narrated by Deputy Chief David Greene and Coroner Richard Harvey spoke to the students about the death notification process. It is hoped the students can gain valuable insight regarding the dangers of intoxication and poor driving and make better decisions in those regards. The High School Prom is scheduled for Friday 05-May. Following the event, the students toured the CARE Flight helicopter. Fire-Rescue wanted to thank Eric Bailey's wrecker service for providing, delivering and then picking up the car that was used in the scenario.
