05/June/2023 - MVC with Entrapment Mutual Aid to Hampton County - "B" Shift

Incident # 23-04032 - At 05:25 Hampton County requested assistance with a two vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 near the 39 mile marker NB in Hampton County. Colleton Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 118 responded. Hampton County Fire-Rescue and EMS were already on the scene. Northbound I-95 was blocked, so Colleton units responded 3 miles southbound in the northbound lanes to reach the scene which goes through the Salkehatchie Swamp. Two patients in a black minivan were trapped and critically injured. CARE Flight responded and landed on I-95, however the female patient was too critical to fly and was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 13 to Colleton Medical Center with the CARE Flight crew onboard. She was stabilized at CMC and later flown by CARE Flight from CMC to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The other two patients were transported by Hampton EMS to Colleton Medical Center. Two canines were also involved, but did not appear to have received any serious injuries. Northbound I-95 was blocked for several hours. The SC Hwy Patrol is investigating the MVC.

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 118 responded. Hampton County Fire-Rescue served as Incident Commander.
