04/August/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift 

Incident # 23-05780 - An adult male was critically injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC in 13000 block of Cottageville Highway (US Hwy 17-A) near Indian Oaks Lane east of Cottageville, Friday afternoon 04-August at 19:56. The southbound Ford van which was towing a trailer, left the roadway and struck several trees. The van received heavy damage in the collision, crushing the cab and overturned. The unrestrained adult male driver was partially ejected and was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the van and used Holmatro Rescue tools to extricate the driver. He was treated at the scene for his injuries. A medical helicopter was requested and a landing zone established in a field across from the accident, however the helicopter had to abort due to severe thunderstorms in the area. The patient was then transported emergent by Fire-Rescue Medic 9 to the Trauma Center at MUSC with additional personnel onboard to assist with his care. Cottageville Hwy in the area of the accident was closed for approximately one hour. A private ambulance drove up on the scene and assisted. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC. 

Engine 9, Engine 19, Medic 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 111 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
