Incident # 23-08402 - Six people were injured in a two vehicle MVC at the intersection of Lowcountry Hwy. (US Hwy 21) and Smyly Road Friday afternoon 03-November at 15:26. One vehicle was struck in the driver's door causing approximately 1-1/2 feet of intrusion into the car, trapping the driver. Fire-Rescue Medic 18 transported five patients from one vehicle to Colleton Medical Center. Medic 7's crew treated the man trapped in a small car that ended on the sidewalk. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to remove both driver's side doors and the "B" post to extricate the driver. He was also transported to Colleton Medical Center. A portion of Lowcountry Hwy was blocked for about an hour until the accident could be cleared. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Engine 18, Medic 7, Medic 18, Rescue 18, Battalion 1, Car 111 and Car 119 responded. Battalion Chief Joseph Campbell served as Incident Commander.
