27/Jan/2024 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

An approximately 40' x 25' garage/workshop in the 1400 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) was heavily damaged in an afternoon fire Saturday 27-January at 12:40. The occupants were at home when the fire occurred and advised they heard a pop and the dogs began barking. Upon investigation, they found the garage on fire. Fire-Rescue units arrived quickly and deployed several handlines to the building. Two exposures also received damage as radiant heat melted the siding off of a doublewide mobile home next the garage and damaged a second storage building located behind the garage. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 15 minutes and were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours performing overhaul. No fire entered the adjoining mobile home or storage building. Several small LP tanks inside the garage vented. The homeowner turned off the larger LP tank in the yard. It appears the fire originated in the area of an electric golf cart.  The building suffered substantial damage and the contents were destroyed. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 9, Tender 19, Tender 27, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
