08/March/2024 - Telecommunicator of the Year Award

Captain Angela Stallings of the Sheriff's Office, was recognized as the South Carolina Telecommunicator of the Year by the SC EMS Association. She was presented an award at the SC EMS Conference held in Myrtle Beach Friday evening 08-March. All EMS Agencies in SC are eligible to submit Dispatchers who they feel are worthy of the award. Fire-Rescue entered an application to recognize Captain Stallings for her dedication to Colleton County. She oversees the County 9-1-1 Center, which is operated by the Sheriff's Office. Mrs. Stallings works diligently to improve the Center through improved training and procedures. Over the past few years she has had a positive impact on the operations and leads a dedicated group of Telecommunicators. The past couple of years had been challenging due to staff shortages, but in addition to her regular duties, Captain Stallings works tirelessly to cover vacant shifts, usually on the night shift. She has implemented many improvements including improved pre arrival instructions so the Dispatchers can guide citizens to care for sick or injured people until First Responders arrive. She has had a great impact on the Fire and Emergency Medical side and the Center is operating at the best level since it began in the early 1990s. Her leadership sets an example for a wonderful group of caring communicators. Without them no Law Enforcement, Fire or Medical responders can reach the citizens in need. When she received the award at the packed banquet, she noted that she could not have accomplished any of it without the support of Sheriff Hill and her staff.
