22/March/2024 - MVC with Resuscitation - "C" Shift

Incident # 24-02264 - Firefighter-Paramedics successfully resuscitated an adult female, following a high speed MVC in the 3000 block of Ruffin Road at the intersection of Big Hill Road Friday 22-March at 14:07. The west bound sedan left the roadway and entered the ditch, then crossed over both lanes of traffic and struck the railroad bed. Engine 26 and Medic 26 found the driver unconscious and in cardiac arrest. They quickly extricated her from the vehicle and began ALS procedures. They obtained a return of circulation prior to departing the scene. The patient was rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center where the ED staff stabilized her. She was then transferred to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. It is believed that she suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 111 and Car 112 responded. Firefighter-Flight Paramedic Frank Ptacin served as Incident Commander.
