02/May/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift

Incident # 24-03439 - Three people were injured, two critically after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) and Pleasant Grove Road. The accident occurred Thursday morning 02-May at 06:07 during heavy fog. Visibility was limited at less than a few hundred feet. The southbound utility truck was struck by a west bound pickup truck. The utility truck then struck an embankment and came to rest in the cemetery at Pleasant Grove Church. The pickup truck overturned on the highway. Both occupants of the utility truck suffered multiple traumatic injuries and were trapped in the vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck was able to crawl out of the overturned vehicle. He received non-life threatening injuries. Three Fire-Rescue ambulances were assigned to the incident. Firefighter-Paramedics treated all of the injured, while other crew members used Holmatro Pantheon Rescue Tools to extricate the victims. No medical helicopters could fly due to the heavy fog in the region. Once freed from the wreckage, both men in the utility truck were transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 and 26 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Jefferies Hwy was blocked for over an hour. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 

Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 110, Car 111 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
