21/May/2024 - Fatal MVC - "C" Shift

Incident # 24-03928 - An adult male died from injuries received in a slow speed MVC in the parking lot of Budget Tire in the 1400 block of Hampton Street Tuesday morning 21-May at 09:15. It appears the vehicle was backing up when the driver fell out of the pickup truck and suffered critical traumatic injuries. The truck made a U-turn, drove through a hedge, struck a large sign which ripped the drivers door from the truck and then struck a parked pickup truck before stopping at a second hedge. Several bystanders immediately assisted the man. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find him lying partially in the hedge near Hampton Street. He was treated at the scene, including the administration of whole blood and TXA. The patient was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter stationed there. He was transferred to the Flightcrew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center for emergency surgery. Sadly he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Medic 19 transported a second patient to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC.

Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Captain Mike Duffy served as Incident Commander.
