19/June/2024 - 20 Acre Woods Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 24-04695 - Fire-Rescue responded to a 20 acre woods fire in the 1100 block of Brittlebank Road Wednesday afternoon 19-June at 13:47. A neighbor in the area reported someone burning near the intersection of Brittlebank Road and Peurifoy Road. Dry conditions and light winds caused the fire to rapidly spread threatening multiple homes and a church. The fire spread in a large wooded area between Brittlebank Road, Peurifoy Road and David Street. Station 19 units arrived to find fire threatening homes on Brittlebank Rd and moving west toward David Street. They took up positions on Brittlebank Road to protect homes in the 1100 block. Engine 19 requested additional units to protect structures on Peurifoy Rd and David St. They also requested two tractors from the Forestry Commission. Fire units were able to stop the spread of the flames within a few feet of several homes on Brittlebank Road and the small wooden church on Peurifoy Rd. The Forestry tractors cutoff the head of the fire before it reached the homes on David St. Crews were on the scene for five hours. No homes were damaged, but smoke was heavy in the area through the next morning. SCDOT placed smoke signs on both roads due to limited visibility from the smoke.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Engine 26, Engine 27, Tender 1, Tender 19, Brush 27, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 107, Car 111 and Car 112 responded. Engineer Paramedic Tony Keen  served as Incident Commander.
