20/July/2024 - High Speed MVC - "B" Shift

Incident # 24-05560 - An adult male was seriously injured in a single vehicle MVC on I-95 near the 48 mile marker NB, just north of the Rest Area. The northbound Kenworth vacuum truck suffered a front tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control of the large vehicle. The truck left the highway, driving down the right shoulder, but overturned as it began to reenter the roadway. The truck came to rest on its side, blocking 1-1/2 lanes. The highway was down to one lane for several hours, causing traffic to back up several miles. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered multiple, non-life threatening injuries. He was able to crawl out of the windshield on his own. He was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported by Fire-Rescue to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC, This was one of a half dozen accidents on I-95 in Colleton County over the weekend. 

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
