09/August/2024 - MVC w/entrapment & Air Evac - "B" Shift

Incident # 24-06142 - An adult male received life threatening injuries in a single vehicle MVC on I-95 near the 47 mile marker southbound just south of the Rest Area, Friday morning 09-August at 10:21. The small car was traveling south, when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed, entered a water filled ditch and overturned, trapping the driver. The male driver suffered multiple injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the car, then used Holmatro Pentheon rescue tools to remove a door to gain access to the victim. He was immobilized prior to extricating him from the vehicle. A medical helicopter was requested and CARE Flight flew to the nearby rest area where a Landing Zone was established. The man was transported the short distance in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the Rest Area. He was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Engine 1, Medic 1, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
