14/August/2024 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac ' "A" Shift

Incident # 24-06323 - An adult male was seriously injured in a high speed single vehicle MVC in the 900 block of Quail Drive, Wednesday afternoon 14-August at 17:26. He was driving a small Chevrolet pickup truck, traveling northbound on Quail Drive, when he failed to negotiate a curve, over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The small truck crossed both lanes of traffic twice, before entering the southbound ditch and striking a tree. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and the unrestrained driver was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man in the truck, while other crew members used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to remove the side doors. The patient was extricated with spinal precautions, then transported emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. Additional personnel assisted with his care enroute to the helicopter. The patient was transferred to the Flight Crew of CARE Flight and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC. 

Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 111 and Car 112 responded. Captain Robert Gregory served as Incident Commander.
