13/November/2024 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift Incident # 24-09093 - A three vehicle MVC Wednesday evening 13-November resulted in an adult male being critically injured and flown to a Trauma Center. At 20:39, on a dark rural section of Cooks Hill Road, a northbound Trailblazer collided with a stopped, disabled vehicle in the roadway. An adult male was attempting to make repairs to the car and a family member had a pickup truck parked in front of the disabled car. Apparently, when the Trailblazer struck the rear of the disabled Genesis, the impact pushed it into the pickup truck, crushing the man between the vehicles. He received multiple traumatic injuries and a near amputation to one leg. Bystanders immediately provided aid to the injured man. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a short time later and continued care. The driver of the Trailblazer received non-life threatening injuries and did not require transport to a hospital. No one else on the scene reported injuries. A medical helicopter was requested and CARE Flight landed in a field near the scene. The patient was transferred to the flight crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. He received life saving whole blood and other medications. A portion of Cooks Hill Rd was blocked for several hours while the Highway Patrol conducted their investigation. The Sheriff's Office handled traffic control. Engine 6, Medic 1, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 101 and Car 107 responded. Chief McRoy served as Incident Commander. |
