18/November/2024 - Head on Collision with Air Evac - "A"

Incident # 24-09205 - A St. George man was critically injured in a head-on collision on Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) near Mars Old Field Road Monday evening 18-November at 17:34. His Kia Soul collided with a full-sized Dodge pickup truck, causing heavy damage to both vehicles. The Soul then went down an embankment and overturned. Bystanders pulled the injured man from the small car. He was semi conscious and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene and requested a medical helicopter. CARE Flight responded and landed in a field about a mile from the accident. He was transferred to the Flightcrew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The driver of the pickup truck denied treatment at the scene. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Traffic on Augusta Hwy was blocked for one and half hours. Engine 9, Engine 36, Medic 9, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 101 responded.
