15/December/2024 - Fatal MVC - "C" Shift Incident # 24-09891 - An adult male has died from injuries he received in a motor vehicle collision Sunday evening 15-December. At 19:11, the accident was reported to 9-1-1. The man, who was wearing dark clothing, was riding a Gotrax electric scooter, similar to a skateboard with handles, on Charleston Hwy (SC Hwy 64). Near the intersection of Charleston Hwy and Poplar Street, the man was struck by an eastbound vehicle. He impacted the hood and windshield and then fell to the shoulder of the road. The car immediately stopped, as well as other bystanders. Several off duty medical professionals and a physician stopped to render aid. They performed CPR on the unconscious man until Fire-Rescue units arrived. Firefighter-Paramedics administered resuscitative efforts and transported the man emergent to Colleton Medical Center. Upon arrival at the ED, the patient regained pulses. Colleton Medical Center staff continued to work on the man. He was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center by CAREFlight. Sadly he passed away due to his injuries Tuesday evening. Early CPR by bystanders is credited with his successful resuscitation. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol. Sheriff's Deputies and Walterboro City Police assisted at the scene as traffic was detoured for several hours.
