01/March/2025 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

Incident # 25-01724 - A Smoaks family was displaced following an early morning fire in their home in the 1600 block of Cherokee Drive north of the Town of Smoaks Saturday morning 01-March. At 04:47, the family was awakened to the fire which had already burned into the roof. They were able to safely exit the residence and notify 9-1-1. Engine 7 arrived minutes later to find the home well involved with flames coming through the roof. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed handlines and made an attack on the flames, stopping the fire from reaching rooms on the south end of the building. The building was a doublewide mobile home with an addition. During a search of the building, Firefighters discovered one of the family's canines. Sadly the animal was  beyond help. Crews buried  the animal for the family. It appears the fire started in the addition, possibly in the area of a space heater, then burned in the attic space of the mobile home. The home suffered substantial damage and the family lost most of their belongings. Firefighter-Paramedics evaluated two children at the scene, but they did not require ambulance transport. Fire units were on the scene for 3-1/2 hours. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.

Engine 7, Engine 18, Engine 26, Tender 5, Tender 7, Tender 17, Tender 18, Tender 26, Medic 7, Medic 18, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Firefighter-EMT Marshal Morehead served as Incident Commander.
