26/March/2025 - Grass and Structure Fire - "C" Shift Incident # 25-02501 - Despite the Statewide Burning Ban, an unattended burn barrel located in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Del Rey Drive spread through the yard onto two adjacent properties, destroying a wooden fence, a utility trailer, a wooden storage building and other property, including a utility pole, which caused the power line to fall and ignite the roof of the home on the property. Fire-Rescue units were already on the scene of another fire on Emerald Street two blocks away. Several units were able to break away from the Emerald Street fire and arrive quickly to the Del Rey fire. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed several handlines and extinguished the fire on the roof and worked to extinguish the fence and prevent the fire from reaching the residence behind the incident location. They also kept the fire away from two other outdoor structures. About half of the wooden privacy fence was destroyed, as well as the transformer, wiring and street light on the utility pole. Dominion Energy units also responded. Sheriff's Deputies blocked off the subdivision to control traffic in the area due to heavy smoke from both fires. Engine 1, Engine 26, Tender 21, Tender 27, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 104 and Forestry Units responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander. |
