27/March/2025 - Woods and Bldg Fire - "A" Shift Incident # 25-02548 - As the Statewide Burning Band continues into the second week, woods fires also continue to destroy property and keep firefighters busy. The largest fire in Colleton on Thursday occurred in the 200 block of Dobway Lane near Canadys Crossroads at 17:48. A suspected debris fire spread into a wooded area, destroyed a storage building and animal shelter and damaged a small panel van and the siding on a singlewide mobile home. Engine 5 arrived within minutes of the 9-1-1 call and was able to stop the spread of the fire and save the mobile home. The storage building and animal shelter were both fully involved. Three goats were also saved as crews extinguished the fire that had them trapped at the back of an enclosure. Firefighters deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the fire. All of the contents of the storage building were destroyed. Crews were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours performing overhaul. Approximately 1/2 an acre of woods was also burned. Fire-Rescue responded to five additional woods fires Thursday including Jefferies Hwy, Backfield Road, Scuffletown Road, Sidneys Road and Sunshine Lane. The SC Forestry Commission assisted. Engine 5, Engine 7, Tender 5, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 7, Battalion 1, Car 104 and Car 107 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
