27/March/2025 - High Speed MVC - "A" Shift Incident 25-02552 - Five people were transported to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, following the high speed collision of two pickup trucks on Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker northbound. The accident occurred Thursday evening 27-March at 19:26. Witnesses advised traffic was slowing due to a construction zone at the 56 mile marker. As northbound vehicles began to reduce speed, a northbound pickup truck collided with the rear of another northbound pickup truck. The collision caused heavy damage to both vehicles. One truck overturned, sliding to the breakdown lane, while the first truck blocked the inside lane. Debris and hundreds of screws littered the Interstate blocking all northbound traffic. Engine 1 and Medic 26 arrived minutes later and began treating the injured. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance was assigned to the incident. A Sheriff's Deputy responded to handle traffic control. Recent construction had the median hard packed. Northbound traffic was diverted to the median to allow one lane of traffic to move around the accident. Both lanes were blocked for 30 minutes and then down to one lane for 1-1/2 hours until towing companies could clear the debris. Northbound traffic backed up several miles. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 26 and Car 104 responded. Captain Bryan Eadon served as Incident Commander. |
