04, 05 & 06 April/2025 - Mile In Our Boots Clinician's Academy Fire-Rescue hosted the 2025 Mile in our Boots Clinician's Academy at Station #19 04 through 06 April. The SC FAST has worked for a year planning this important training session. From Angie Stewart - SC FAST recognized that the first responder clinicians that we work with were missing specific training to enhance the clinician - responder connections. Upon our search, we could not find any training in the nation that we felt would help the clinicians have a sense of relevancy to our responders that sought their help. "Mile in our boots" clinicians academy is an inclusive training academy designed to deliver "teachable moments" relevant to the fields of Fire, EMS, LEO, and dispatch. Each training track incorporates hands-on opportunities & real life scenarios that responders may encounter, ensuring practical applicability. Our academy also features a chaplaincy component as well as a family component that emphasizes the pervasive impact of first responder trauma on loved ones. Since 2022, Colleton County Fire Rescue has been instrumental in supporting our vision serving as the academy's home. We have a total of 16 participants (4 squads of 4). Each track is led by professionals actively engaged in their respective fields. MIOB has hosted clinicians from SC, NC, FL, CA, NJ, TN, MD, WI, and VA. CCFR, CCSO, Yemasee PD, Colleton County 911, and CARE flight have all been instrumental in the various tracks. Combined we have 8 - 10 instructors total for the HOT tracks and 20 volunteers (to include our explorers) that help with support on the tracks. On Sunday the responders do a mock MCI that includes the helicopter for the clinicians to see how it all comes together. |

The HOT tracks for Fire included the burning building w/ pinch points. The
EMS track was a hyperactive delirium mom whose child was found in cardiac
arrest. The clinicians had to perform CPR in the back of a moving truck as
well as threading a needle while moving to simulate starting an IV. SC FAST would like to thank all of CCFR's staff, employees, volunteers, and explorers that helped make this a great success. Feel free to follow us on Facebook: Mile In Our Boots Clinician's Academy |
