09/May/2025 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 25-03724 - A Springtown family was displaced following a fire that destroyed their home Friday evening 09-May at 22:23. The fire occurred at 8857 Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61). A family member advised she was awakened by smoke and found the home on fire. She was able to alert the two other family members and all three escaped the burning structure. Engine 7 arrived to find the single story residential dwelling approximately 70% involved. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and one 2-1/2 handline to control the fire. Crews worked for approximately 30 minutes to gain control of the fire, but were on the scene performing overhaul for five hours. Water supply was conducted with a Tender shuttle. One occupant was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, then transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue Medic 26. Two Firefighters were also injured while battling the blaze and were transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue ambulances. Both were treated and later released. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen and spread to the attic. The cause is under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the family. One lane of Augusta Hwy was blocked for the duration of the incident. The Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic. 

Engine 7, Engine 26, Tender 5, Tender 7, Tender 9, Tender 17, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 7, Medic 9, Medic 13, Medic 18, Battalion 1, Car 104 and Car 107 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
