8/June/2025 - Patient Visit with MUSC Bralyn Padgett visited with the responders who rescued her following a horrific automobile crash on Dorsey Street on 27-April. MUSC arranged the meeting at Fire-Rescue Headquarters, bringing Bralyn, her Trauma Surgeon Dr. Mallah and many of the responders who all worked to save her life, together to meet and discuss the accident. Bralyn was upbeat and smiling as she greeted everyone. Representatives from Live 5 and the Post and Courier were on site as Bralyn, responders and finally Dr. Mallah recapped the events of the day and how the team effort played out, ultimately saving Bralyn. On 27 April Bralyn's car crashed into a chain link fence on Dorsey Street, with the top rail penetrating the windshield and impaling Bralyn through the chest and exiting through the rear of the seat. She was in critical condition, but remained conscious throughout the entire ordeal. Crews from Fire-Rescue and the City of Walterboro worked to free her and were able to cut the pole allowing her to be extricated from the car. Fire-Rescue transported Bralyn with the remains of the pole in place to meet with the Meducare helicopter for a transport to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The Trauma Team at MUSC, led by Dr. Mallah, performed a delicate surgery to remove the pole and repair damage caused from the impalement. Bralyn has had a remarkable recovery and was grateful for everyone's efforts. |
