Hundreds of First Responders lined I-26 and the overpasses to honor fallen State Trooper Dennis Ricks Friday morning 15-August. Ricks died from injuries sustained during a traffic stop on I-26 in Orangeburg County earlier in the week. It was reported that Ricks was struck by a box truck and sustained life threatening injuries. He was transported to the Trauma Center at HCA Trident Hospital in North Charleston, but sadly did not survive. Friday morning, Ricks' body was transported from Trident Hospital to Newberry SC with a large Law Enforcement escort. Responders stood at attention on overpasses, exit ramps and at several locations along I-26.
Local Law Enforcement Officers and Fire-Rescue stood by at the Weigh Station at the 174 mile marker westbound. Some civilians stopped along I-26 and also saluted as the escort passed.
