Incident # 25-06462 - An adult male received life threatening injuries after his pickup truck left I-95, struck a guard rail and plummeted into Ivanhoe Creek at 01:18 Saturday morning 16-Aug. The truck overturned several times receiving heavy damage. A second vehicle was also damaged when it struck debris in the highway following the first collision. The small car was disabled and blocked one lane of I-95. Firefighter-Paramedics scaled down the embankment and traversed waist deep water to reach the injured man. Firefighters rigged ropes and placed a ladder down the embankment to assist with his recovery. He was eventually secured in a stokes basket and hoisted up the embankment. Fire-Rescue Medic 1, transported him to the Trauma Center at HCA Trident Hospital in North Charleston. There were no injuries in the second vehicle. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Brush 27, Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Scott O'Quinn served as Incident Commander.
