31/January/2016 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift


Incident # 26-00840 - One person died and another was seriously injured in a high speed single vehicle MVC in the 9800 block of Sidneys Road at Bullseye Lane Saturday 31-Jan at 21:38. The accident occurred during the snow storm which impacted the region Saturday evening and the roads were covered in snow and ice. The northbound Lincoln Town Car lost control just after clearing a curve and crossed into the south bound ditch where it slid sideways and struck several trees. The impact uprooted a large tree and the car began to flip over when it came to rest against a small cluster of trees. The car received heavy damage with the roof and passenger side doors were crushed into the interior. The restrained passenger was heavily entrapped in the wreckage and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived at the location to find the unrestrained driver outside of the vehicle with multiple traumatic injuries. They were able access the trapped passenger and determined no signs of life. Fire-Rescue Medic 9 transported the adult driver emergent to the Trauma Center at HCA Trident Hospital. Other crew members used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to extricate the passenger. The Coroner's Office transported the passenger. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Sidneys Road in the area of the accident was closed for three hours. The Sheriff's Office handled traffic control and detoured the local traffic. 

Engine 19, Medic 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as incident Commander.
