11/February/2026 - MVC with Entrapment and Air Evac Incident # 26-01173 - A motorist was severely injured in a two vehicle MVC on Interstate 95 near the 67 mile marker northbound. The Nissan Murano collided with a minivan then veered off of the roadway. The car went down an embankment and struck several trees. The Nissan sustained heavy damage trapping the driver in the wreckage. The two adults in the minivan were not injured. Initial 9-1-1 calls indicated the driver was unconscious at one point. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived and began treating the occupant in the car, while other crewmembers used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to remove the driver's door and a hydraulic ram to displace the dash and steering wheel. A medical helicopter was requested. CARE Flight responded to the parking lot at the Circle C Truck Stop. Fire-Rescue Medic 26 transported the patient to the Truck Stop to meet with the Flight Crew. The patient was flown to the Trauma Center at HCA Trident Hospital in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Engine 5, Engine 26, Rescue 1, Medic 26, C112 and CARE Flight responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander. |
