23/February/2026 - MVC with ejection & Air Evac - "B" Shift Incident # 26-01519 - A loaded fuel tanker overturned in the 11500 block of Green Pond Hwy. (SC Hwy. 303) at the intersection of Wisteria Rd in the Green Pond Community Monday morning 23-February. 9-1-1 received several reports of the accident at 09:44. The southbound truck drove off of the right shoulder and over corrected. The vehicle crossed to the northbound ditch where it slide sideways and rolled over twice. The 4500 gallon tank separated from the truck body and an approximately three foot hole was torn in the front compartment causing a diesel fuel leak. The other two compartments remained intact and did not leak. The truck was hauling a combination of gasoline and diesel fuel. The unrestrained driver was ejected from truck and was found in the roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station 6 in Green Pond arrived within minutes and blocked off Green Pond Hwy. Sheriff's Deputies were requested to detour traffic at Clover Hill Road and Wood Road. The scene was covered in diesel fuel and debris. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the driver at the scene, who suffered multiple injuries and a head injury. A medical helicopter was requested. CARE Flight responded to a field at the corner of ACE Basin Parkway and Wood Road. Fire-Rescue Medic 6 transported the patient to the field to meet with CARE Flight. The patient was quickly deconned before being flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. A HazMat response was also requested, as well as the ARFF truck. The leak was too large to seal. Crews diked the runoff and used absorbent pads to contain the leaking product. The trucking company brought a second tanker to the scene. They off loaded the remaining product. A local contractor also brought a mobile tank to assist. Recovery crews from Gerald's Wrecker Service and Eric Bailey's Wrecker Service used a rotator wrecker to lift the tank and placed it on a lowboy trailer to clear the scene. |

They used a large wrecker to tow the chassis. Green Pond Highway was closed
in the area of the accident for five hours. The accident is being
investigated by the SC Highway Patrol and State Transport Police. SCDOT
responded to set up a detour to free up the Sheriff's Deputies. Engine 6, Medic 6, HazMat 19, ARFF 19, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 115 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as incident Commander. |
