06/March/2026 - Car Hauler Fire - "C" Shift

Incident # 26-01811 - A 05:08 Friday morning 06-March, 9-1-1 received several reports of a car hauler on fire on Interstate 95 near the 55 mile marker southbound. Engine 1 arrived to find the trailer, containing six passenger cars, fully involved. Another semi-truck had the Interstate stopped to prevent traffic to reaching the intense fire. Engine 1 use the deck gun to knock down the flames, while Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to the fire. The Sheriff's Office handled traffic control and blocked the two southbound lanes to allow Firefighters the ability to safely operate and for Tenders to refill Engine 1. Crews worked for approx. 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, but were on scene for two hours performing overhaul. The truck driver had disconnected the cab, which contained two additional vehicles and was packed approximately 200 feet south of the fire. The truck driver was not injured. He noted that a flat tire on the trailer caused the fire. The trailer and six vehicles were destroyed. The southbound lanes of I-95 were closed for two hours causing traffic to back up for several miles.

Engine 1, Tender 1, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 1 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as incident Commander.
