11/June/2026 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 26-04902 - An Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) home was destroyed in a mid-day fire Thursday 11-June. At 11:27 a passing motorist reported to 9-1-1 that the porch of a house was on fire at 17446 Augusta Hwy. A second caller reported the house was well involved. Engine 19 arrived to the rural community about 10 minutes later to find the two story residence approximately 60% involved with flames coming from the windows and doors on both floors. Engine 19 used the deck gun to knock down the flames, as Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two 2-1/2" handlines to the structure. As additional units arrived, three additional handlines were deployed. One occupant was inside the building but escaped unharmed. The roof collapsed shortly after fire units arrived. A Tender shuttle was established for water supply and Engine 7 responded to the boat landing on Jefferies Hwy. (US Hwy 15) at the Edisto River to refill Tenders. Eight 3000 gallon Tenders shuttled water for two hours until the fire was completely extinguished. Firefighters were on the scene for five hours. No injuries were reported. The occupants lost most of their belongings and the home received substantial damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family. The fire was determined to have started on the front porch. The cause is still under investigation.
