30-November-2017 – Car vs Tractor MVC – “C” shift

A 51 year old Colleton County man received multiple traumatic injuries after the tractor he was driving was struck by a another vehicle in the 26300 block of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) Thursday evening 30-November at 18:17. Both vehicles were traveling east on Augusta Hwy when a GMC Yukon overtook the slow moving John Deere tractor. The Yukon struck the rear of the tractor causing it to overturn in the roadway. 29-November-2017 – Decorating the Courthouse

Colleton Firefighters assisted Clerk of Court Pat Grant and Polly Riley with decorating the Courthouse for the upcoming Christmas holidays Wednesday morning 29-November. Stations #1 and #26 along with Logistics, Training and personnel from the Fire Marshal’s Office assisted. It took about an hour to hang all the decorations. Click here for more information.

26/November/2017 – MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

A 63 yr old male received serious injuries after he was struck by a car on Johnsville Road near Sizemore Road Sunday morning 26-November at 05:06. The man had been riding a bicycle when he was struck and bystanders found him semiconscious in a ditch. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him at the scene and requested the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter to respond. Click here for more information.

23/November/2017 – Fatal MVC with Ejection – “A” Shift

A 23 year old Ritter man lost his life in a single car MVC in the 7700 block of Green Pond Hwy Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning 23-November at 00:14. The accident occurred just north of Ritter Road. The southbound Mercedes was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control on a straight section of highway. The vehicle crossed over to the northbound ditch where it struck a power pole and began to flip over multiple times. Click here for more information.

19/November/2017 – MVC with entrapment – “A” Shift

An adult male was injured and trapped inside his small SUV following a single car crash in the 2000 block of Hiers Corner Road Sunday afternoon 19-November. At 14:18, 9-1-1 received a report of a vehicle that struck a tree and the driver was trapped. Westside units were already enroute to a MVC with entrapment on Broxton Bridge Highway. 19/November/2017 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “A” Shift

Three adults were injured in a two car MVC at the intersection of Broxton Bridge Highway (US Hwy 601) and Confederate Highway (SC Highway 651) Sunday afternoon 19-November at 13:50. One patient received life threatening injuries. Firefighters arrived to find Broxton Bridge Highway blocked by the damaged cars. One occupant was trapped inside the wreckage. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance and a medical helicopter was assigned to the incident. Click here for more information.

18/November/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift

Four people received injuries in a single car MVC near the 600 block of Poplar Street Saturday evening 18-November. At approximately 22:42 a northbound passenger car left the roadway in a curve and struck the embankment causing the car to flip backwards and land in the ditch. All of the doors were blocked by the ditch walls. Three children, ages 2, 5 and 8 were riding in the back seat and suffered minor injuries. Click here for more information.

17-November-2017 – Paramedic Graduation 

Six County Firefighter-EMTs graduated from the Paramedic Program conducted by the Lowcountry Regional EMS Council. The proud students just completed the 15 month long training program and are now cleared to take the National Registry Examination. The competency based paramedic course follows the  National EMS Education Standards and consists of a minimum of 1,100 hours of classroom instruction, laboratory, clinical and field rotations throughout the Lowcountry Region. 17/November/2017 – Equipment Fire – “A” Shift

A night watchman at the Warren Lumber Mill in Williams averted a potentially dangerous fire Friday morning 17-November. At 03:34, the watchman was making his rounds, when he discovered a fire under the Mill House near the conveyor system. He alerted 9-1-1 sending County Firefighters to the large facility in the rural Town of Williams. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from piles of saw dust under the conveyor system, which is located under a building. Click here for more information.

15/November/2017 – Car vs Motorcycle MVC – “C” Shift

Two people were injured after a motorcycle and passenger car collided at the intersection of Sidneys Road and Chestnut Drive. The northbound motorcycle struck the passenger side of the southbound car as car turned onto Chestnut Drive. The motorcycle driver was ejected and landed on the roadway. He suffered multiple injuries, but was conscious at the scene. The driver of the car also received injuries in the crash. Click here for more information.

12/November/2017 – Veterans Day Parade – “A” Shift

The Colleton County Veterans Council sponsored the annual Veterans Day Parade Sunday 12-November. This year, the group honored all First Responders as the Grand Marshals for the parade. They provided a float for First Responders which had representatives from Law Enforcement and Fire-Rescue. The parade began at the Old Hampton Street School and followed a route through downtown Walterboro. Click here for more information.

11/November/2017 – Hunting Accident – “B” Shift

A 48 year old Summerville man was injured in a hunting accident Saturday morning 11-November. At 08:31, Fire-Rescue units were sent to a small dirt path off of the 400 block of Clover Hill Road south of Catholic Hill. The man was hunting with a large group when he was accidently shot with buck shot. He received two wounds to a leg. Bystanders had controlled the bleeding prior to the arrival of Paramedics. 10/November/2017 – Shooting Incident – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-07769 – A 20 year old male received two gunshot wounds in an incident at 426 Savage Street Friday morning 10-November. At 01:23 unknown subjects fired multiple rounds into the home striking the man in the leg and shoulder. Click here for more information.

09/November/2017 – C.A.R.E. Flight Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new C.A.R.E. (Colleton Air Rescue Evac) Flight Program based at Colleton Medical Center, mid-day Thursday 09-November. Despite a raining day, a large crowd attended and enjoyed lunch provided by Med-Trans Corp, the parent company of the Program.  Click here for more information.  

08/November/2017 – Fatal MVC – “B” Shift

Incident # 17-07732 - An 65 year old Ohio man was killed Wednesday afternoon 08-November when his bike was struck by a car on Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) approximately 1 mile south of Ritter Road at 14:02. The man was traveling north when he was struck by a north bound Ford Focus. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later to find the man and the bicycle at the wood line. Click here for more information.

07/November/2017 – Traumatic Injury with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 17-07695 – A five month old child was severely injured in a fall Tuesday morning 07-November at 08:28. The baby received a head injury and had complications at the scene. The C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter was alerted and was on standby at Colleton Medical Center’s helipad.  Click here for more information.

06/November/2017 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-07674 - An alert Sheriff’s Deputy on Patrol in the Ritter Community discovered a house on fire at 3819 Possum Corner Road Monday morning 06-November at 11:23. The Deputy had 9-1-1 Dispatchers notify Fire-Rescue units of the incident. Fire units arrived several minutes later to find the building approximately 35% involved with heavy smoke conditions coming from all sides of the single story building. 05/November/2017 – Dive Training

All eight Firefighters participating in the PADI Open Water SCUBA diver course successfully completed their certification dives this past weekend. The Open Water Course is the first of many classes the personnel will take to become Rescue Divers. The group finished their classroom training and pool dives during October and traveled to Devils Den Springs in Williston Florida to perform their certification dives. 05/November/2017 – Fatal Shooting Incident – “A” Shift

Three adult males were shot, one fatally, during an incident at Classic’s Night Club located at 2444 Robertson Blvd Sunday morning 05-November. At 01:32, Fire-Rescue was notified of a person shot at the location. Law Enforcement Officers from the Sheriff’s Office and Walterboro Police Dept. were already on the scene. Shortly after units were dispatched, Officers advised there were multiple victims and one subject had been taken to Colleton Medical Center by private car. Click here for more information.
