13/September/2017 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift
Incident # 17-06361 – Two people were severely injured
in a head-on crash in the 2200 block of Mt. Carmel Road Wednesday morning
13-September. At 04:44, Fire-Rescue units were notified of the accident just
south of Ruffin Road. Engine 26 and Medic 26 arrived within 2 minutes from
Station # 26 one mile from the scene. Units found the road blocked by the
two vehicles, a small car and a small pickup truck. Both vehicles received
heavy damage. Firefighter-Paramedics requested a second ambulance and placed
a medical helicopter on standby. The helicopter was not available due fog.
Crews treated both patients, an adult male in the car and an adult female in
the truck, at the scene and rapidly transported them to the Trauma Center at
Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Both suffered multiple traumatic
injuries. The roadway remained closed for approximately 1-1/2 hours. The SC
Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Engine 26, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1
and Car 112 responded. Captain Justin Warko served as Incident Commander.
