09/October/2020 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac - "C" Shift
Incident # 20-06911 - A 54 year old Moselle man was critically injured in a
single vehicle MVC Friday evening 09-October in the 2100 block of Ashton
Road in Islandton. The man was operating a Jeep Cherokee that left the
roadway, entered a ditch and struck a tree receiving heavy damage. The
unrestrained driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries, was partially
ejected through the windshield and was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters
from Station # 15 in Islandton arrived within minutes. They began
administering medical care and requested a medical helicopter to respond.
Crews worked to stabilize the man during the extrication, while other
crewmembers used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the passenger doors and "B"
post to allow for access to the patient and for his safe removal. The
Meducare helicopter responded from Charleston and landed in a field next to
the site of the accident. The patient was extricated and advanced airway
procedures were performed to secure his airway. He was flown in critical
condition to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in Charleston. The
SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Engine 15, Engine 23, Medic 7, Medic 13, Brush 15, Rescue 1, Rescue 18,
Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Captain Matthew Owens Williams,
Jr. served as Incident Commander. |
