29/May/2020 – Fatal MVC with entrapment – “B” Shift

A 35 year old Walterboro man died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle MVC on Lodge Hwy (SC Hwy 217) at the Bamberg County Line Friday morning 29-May. The accident was reported at 10:14, but is believed to have occurred around 07:30. The vehicle was difficult to see from the roadway. It appeared the 1998 Toyota 4Runner was traveling south on Lodge Hwy, when it crossed the over to the northbound side of the roadway and crashed in the creek. The vehicle cleared the creek and struck the concrete abutment on the southbound side of the creek. It then overturned in the water trapping the driver. Click here for more information.

26/May/2020 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

A Florida man was critically injured in a single vehicle MVC on Interstate 95 near mile marker 52 northbound. The Toyota Sequoia was traveling northbound when it left the roadway and entered a water filled ditch. Witnesses advised the SUV flipped over multiple times and landed on its roof in about three feet of water. A traveler from North Carolina, a Dominion Energy truck driver and a Firefighter-EMT from Jasper County Fire-Rescue stopped to render aid. They entered the water and were able to force open the rear passenger’s door freeing one of the occupants. Click here for more information.

26/May/2020 – Shooting Incidents – “A” Shift

Two adult males received gunshot wounds at two different locations three hours apart Tuesday morning 26-May. The first incident occurred in the 500 block of Rivers St just outside the City Limit of Walterboro. An adult male was riding a bicycle on Rivers Street when a car pulled alongside and began firing a weapon at him. The man was struck several times, but managed to escape into a wooded area. Law Enforcement located the man who had serious injuries to both arms and an upper leg. Click here for more information.

24/May/2020 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

An adult male suffered multi-traumatic injuries after being involved in a single vehicle MVC on Jefferies Hwy (US Hwy 15) at Barwick Lane Sunday evening 24-May. The pickup truck was traveling south on Jefferies Hwy when it attempted to pass several other southbound vehicles, including a Dorchester County EMS Ambulance transporting a patient to Colleton Medical Center. The vehicle lost control and flipped over several times before coming to rest on the right shoulder at Barwick Lane. The man was initially trapped in the truck. Click here for more information.

24/May/2020 – Shooting Incident – “C” Shift

An adult male received a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest Sunday evening 24-May at a residence on Huckleberry Hill Lane north of Cottageville. The incident was reported to 9-1-1 at 20:36. Bystanders provided aid, including bleeding control before Firefighter-Paramedics arrived. The patient was in critical condition and experiencing difficulty breathing. A medical helicopter was sent to the scene and landed in a field on August Hwy near Meeting House Road. Click here for more information.

24/May/2020 – Water Rescue – “C” Shift

Two women and three children were rescued on the Edisto River Saturday afternoon 24-May. At 14:48, 9-1-1 was notified that the group was in trouble on the Edisto River south of Good Hope Landing before Jelicos Landing. Firefighter-Paramedics and DNR Officers responded to Good Hope Landing. The people’s cell phone had poor reception, but 9-1-1 Dispatchers were able to get a general location on them. They had been traveling on the river on inflatable rafts when the current pushed them into several downed trees laying across the river, causing the rafts to deflate. 23/May/2020 - Fatal MVC – “B Shift

A 25 year old Colleton County woman died from injuries she received in a single vehicle MVC on I-95 near the 65 mile marker northbound Saturday evening 23-May at 19:02. The woman was operating a Dodge Dakota pickup, traveling northbound on I-95 when she lost control, crossed both lanes of the highway and struck the side of the bridge over Weans Rd. The vehicle then crossed back over both lanes and overturned several times in the median before landing on the roof against the guardrail on the southbound side of the highway. 23/May/2020 – Coca Cola – AHA Drink Distribution 

The Coca Cola Company distributed cases of the drink AHA to First Responders in the Colleton Area Friday 23-May. Wal-Mart was generous enough to allow the use of their parking lot. Senator Margie Bright helped to coordinate the event notifying local agencies. She was present and assisted with handing out cases of the product to Firefighters, Firefighter-Paramedics and Law Enforcement Officers in Colleton County. Crews reported to the Wal-Mart parking lot and drove through the distribution line to receive cases of the drink. Click here for more information.

21/May/2020 – Explosive Device – “C” Shift

A construction crew performing work at the Lowcountry Regional Airport, dug up an unexploded ordnance believed to be an 81mm mortar Thursday afternoon 21-May. Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire-Rescue units responded to the property and stood by until bomb technicians from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit arrived. Bomb Techs examined the device and checked it thoroughly before securing the mortar and safely removing it from the location. No one was injured during the operation. Click here for more information.

16/May/2020 – Burn Patient with Air Evac – “C” Shift 

A 71 yr. old Ruffin woman was flown to the Burn Center in Augusta Saturday afternoon 16-May. At 15:25, Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a residence in the 7000 block of Bells Highway for a patient with burns to her face. On arrival, Firefighter-Paramedics found the patient with severe burns to her face and airway. She was experiencing difficulty breathing. She advised the crew that she had been smoking while on home oxygen and the fire ignited burning her face. Click here for more information.

16/May/2020 – MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

A 25 year old Walterboro man was critically injured in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 northbound at Exit 62 on the over-pass Saturday morning 16-May at 04:50. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes following the crash, having just cleared up from a separate accident a mile away on the southbound side. A northbound Lexus struck the guardrail causing heavy damage to the car. The vehicle came to rest in the travel lanes blocking both lanes on the McLeod Road overpass. A northbound GMC pickup truck collided with the Lexus causing further damage and heavily damaging the pickup truck. Click here for more information.

05/15/2020 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

A Summerville man was injured after his Jeep struck a utility trailer and overturned in the 800 block of Black Street Friday morning 15-May at 11:18. Units arrived to find the car laying on the passenger side in the roadway. The adult male driver was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man while he was still in the vehicle as other crewmembers worked to remove the roof. Cribbing and Holmatro V-Struts were used to stabilize the vehicle and Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools and a reciprocating saw were used to remove a portion of the roof to gain access to the driver. 10/May/2020 – Fatal Shooting Incident – “ C” Shift 

An adult male was killed from a gunshot wound to the upper torso Sunday morning 10-May at 02:19. The incident occurred at the Palms Inn located at 1145 Sniders Hwy near I-95. The man was shot in the parking lot at the end of the building. City Police, Sheriff’s Deputies and Firefighter-Paramedics arrived quickly, but the man had no signs of life. The Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene. The man was shot during an altercation outside of the motel. The Walterboro Police Dept is investigating the incident. 08/May/2020 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Two people were injured and one driver was trapped in a three car MVC at the intersection of Bells Hwy. (SC Hwy 64) and Doctors Creek Road Friday afternoon 08-May at 12:50. A west bound vehicle struck the rear of a Chevrolet Corsica also traveling west bound, pushing it head-on into a Nissan Rogue SUV turning onto Bells Hwy. The female driver of the Rogue received non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Corsica was trapped in his vehicle and received multiple, non-life threatening traumatic injuries. 07/May/2020 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Firefighters saved a home and rescued three dogs during a structure fire at 88 Heavens Hill Ct east of Cottageville Thursday morning 07-May at 11:12. Engine 9 arrived to find smoke visible from all sides of the doublewide mobile home and flames burning through the back wall and roof. Two crews attacked the fire with two 1-3/4 handlines and quickly brought the fire under control and stopped the spread of the flames inside the building. The occupants safety exited the home, but three large dogs in crates were still inside the smoke filled home. Click here for more information.

06/May/2020 – Fatal MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

A 40 yr. old Cottageville man and his dog were killed in a single vehicle high speed MVC on Sniders Hwy. (SC Hwy 63) just west of Rentz Dr Wednesday afternoon 06-May at 19:50. A Fire-Rescue unit that was responding to another incident in the area road up on the accident which a neighbor advised just occurred. The vehicle was traveling toward Walterboro when it drove off of the right shoulder past Tyler Rd, reentered the highway, over-corrected and left the roadway a second time before sliding sideways and flipping over into several trees. 03/May/2020 – MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

A 70 yr. old Indiana woman was seriously injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 61 mile marker northbound. The woman was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee northbound when the car veered into the median. The driver overcorrected and lost control causing the small SUV to flip over several times on the highway, coming to rest on it’s roof in the travel lanes. The vehicle received heavy damage and was leaking a large amount of gasoline. The woman, who was wearing a seatbelt and the sole occupant of the vehicle, received multiple traumatic injuries, including a near amputation of the left arm. Click here for more information.
