31/August/2018 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “A” Shift

A Varnville man was severely injured in a single car MVC at 09:43 Friday morning 31-August. The man’s small Mazda was traveling west in the 5600 block of Moselle Road when it left the roadway and collided with a tree on the east bound side of the road. The car suffered heavy damage and trapped the man in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man semi-conscious in the car and began treating his injuries. A medical helicopter was requested. Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the man from the car. Click here for more information.

25/August/2018 – Shooting Incident – “A” Shift

Two men were injured at a residence located at 51 Tika Street Saturday evening 25-August. At 20:52, two Fire-Rescue Ambulances were dispatched to the home for the report of two people with gunshot wounds. Deputies arrived a short time later and advised only one person was shot, but two men were injured. Firefighter-Paramedics found two men who had been beaten, both with head injuries and one with a gunshot wound to the leg. Click here for more information.

25/August/2018 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

An early morning fire destroyed a residence at 21 Libby Lane in the Johnsville Community north of Smoaks Saturday morning 25-August at 03:32. Engine 7 arrived to find the doublewide mobile home well involved with a portion of the roof over the center of the structure already collapsed. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 20 minutes. Firefighters worked for nearly two more hours performing overhaul and extinguishing hot spots. Click here for more information.

20/August/2018 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

Fire-Rescue responded to a well involved structure fire at 315 Enterprise Street at 12:07 Monday afternoon 20-August. This was the same location of a suspicious fire that occurred on 04-May at the same location, which caused heavy damage to the residence. The home was vacant and there was no power to the structure. Engine 19 arrived to find heavy fire conditions with flames coming from all four sides of the building. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to perform an exterior attack on the fire. 18/August/2018 – Shooting Incident – “C” Shift

A adult male was injured in a shooting incident in the 500 block of Rivers Street near the old Chase Lounge Saturday evening 18-August at 21:17. The man was shot twice, once in the shoulder and once in the lower arm. He ran about two blocks to a residence in the 300 block of Lockhart Street where Firefighter-Paramedics found him sitting on the front porch. Crews treated and bandaged his wounds at the scene, prior to transporting him to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in Fire-Rescue Medic 19.  Click here for more information.
8/13/2018- Our condolences go out to Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy for the death of his father, who passed away this morning.  Please keep Chief McRoy and his family in your thoughts and prayers.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 13:00 (1:00 PM) at the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island (2164 Highway 174, Edisto Island, SC 29438).  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the church for the food pantry mission.

10/August/2018 – Car vs Tree – “C” Shift

A single car high speed MVC sent two men to the Trauma Center Friday morning 10-August at 02:55. The car left the roadway and struck a small oak tree, breaking the tree in half. The car suffered heavy damage in the collision. A tractor trailer stopped and the driver began rendering aid to the injured. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later, treated the men who suffered traumatic injuries, then transported the two males emergent to the Trauma Center at MUSC. 09/August/2018 – MVC with entrapment - “C” Shift

At 20:50 Thursday evening 09-August a pickup truck crashed into a fallen tree on South Jefferies Blvd just north of Hendersonville Hwy. Earlier in the evening a large tree fell across all four lanes of the busy highway taking down the power lines along South Jefferies Blvd and knocking out power to many south areas of the county. A severe thunderstorm was passing through the Lowcountry with heavy rains, high winds and lightning. SCDOT crews and personnel from SCE&G were on the scene attempting the clear the roadway and restore the power lines. Click here for more information.

09/Augusta/2018 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Firefighters saved a singlewide mobile home during a severe thunderstorm Thursday evening 09-August. At 19:31 9-1-1 was notified of a fire in the bedroom at 281 Cocoa Drive. Fire-Rescue units throughout the county were handling multiple incidents due to heavy rains, high winds and lightning. Engine 19 arrived to find smoke showing from all sides of the singlewide mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics made entry through the front door and found one room well involved. Crews quickly brought the fire under control and contained it to the bedroom, saving the remainder of the home and belongings. Click here for more information.

06/August/2018 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Lighting struck a home in the 11700 block of Bells Highway Monday afternoon 06-August causing a fire that destroyed the doublewide mobile home. Neighbors heard the thunder and felt the ground shake. They were notified shortly thereafter by a passerby that the residence was on fire. They quickly went to the home and were able to rescue a canine from the residence which sat off of the roadway. The caller reported to 9-1-1 dispatchers that the roof was on fire. Firefighters arrived a short time later and found the home well involved. Click here for more information.

06/August/2018 – Structure Fire –  “B” Shift

Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Burlington Road Monday morning 06-August at 05:58. Units found flames showing from the front of the singlewide mobile home and quickly extinguished the fire using one handline. The fire was contained to two rooms, however the remainder of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. The occupants were able to safely escape the structure, but the family’s cat perished. Firefighters located the deceased feline and burned the animal for the family. Click here for more information.

06/August/2018 – Fatal MVC – “B” Shift 

A single car high speed MVC left one man dead and injured another after the passenger car left the roadway and struck a large tree in the 1000 block of Hiers Corner Road Monday morning 06-August at 01:18. The west bound vehicle was being pursued by Law Enforcement when the accident occurred. The passenger was ejected from the car and found deceased at the scene. 03/August/2018 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

A detached garage was destroyed and a nearby home damaged after lightning struck the building Friday afternoon 03-August at 17:06. Engine 19 arrived at the residence on Mallory Court to find the single car garage fully involved and endangering the single family dwelling located approximately 15 feet away. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to extinguish the fire and protect the exposure. Crews had the fire knocked down with in minutes. The garage and a golf cart were destroyed. 02/August/2018 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Four people were injured in a two car, high speed head-on collision on Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) at the Colleton/Hampton County line Thursday evening 02-August at 18:53. The vehicles collided on a section of highway that transverses the Salkehatchie Swamp and was actually a few hundred yards into Hampton County. Emergency Services from both counties responded to the incident which was initially reported to be in Colleton County. A west bound Mazda CX-9 suffered heavy damage to the front and driver’s side of the car and came to rest against the guard rail. Click here for more information.
