30/March/2018 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A residence at 3639 Bells Highway was destroyed in an early morning fire 30-March at 03:03. Callers to 9-1-1 reported the building was fully involved. Engine 26 arrived to find the one story wooden building fully involved and near collapse. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the fire. Shortly after arrival, most of the building collapsed. Crews worked for about 30 minutes to gain control of the fire and were on the scene for 3 hours. Click here for more information.

29/March/2018 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift

While crews were working a MVC with entrapment on Robertson Blvd, 9-1-1 Operators began receiving reports of a High Speed MVC on I-95 near the 63 mile marker north bound. The incident occurred Thursday evening 29-March at 19:34. Callers reported a motorhome had crashed in the median and was on fire. Colleton Fire-Rescue units arrived quickly and found the motorhome fully involved and an approx. ½ acre woods fire in the median. Northbound traffic was already stopped, but the number of emergency vehicles blocked both lanes. Click here for more information.

29/March/2018 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Two vehicles collided on Robertson Blvd near Holloway Street Thursday afternoon 29-March at 19:30. Both ended up in the ditch with the driver of a Jeep trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics treated both people at the scene and used Holmatro Rescue Tools to force open the driver’s door on the Jeep to free the driver. She was transported to Colleton Medical Center for evaluation. The driver of the pickup truck did not require ambulance transportation. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 28/March/2018 – Shooting Incident – “A” Shift

Three people were shot, one fatally, at 426 Savage Street Wednesday evening 28-March at 21:25. Callers to 9-1-1 reported several people down in the front yard of the residence. Walterboro Police arrived quickly and verified there were two people with gunshot wounds in the front yard, one was unconscious and the second had a chest wound. A WPD Officer began controlling the bleeding on one of the victims. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived shortly behind WPD. Click here for more information.

3/28/2018 - We wish to express condolences to the family of Station # 2 Firefighter Casey Chubb. Casey’s mother, Danette Edwards Chubb passed away Tuesday 26-March. She was 59. Please remember the Chubb family in your prayers. Arrangements will be handled by the Brice Herndon Funeral Home. The link to the obituary is: http://www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com/notices/DanetteEdwards-Chubb .  Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, March 30, 2018, in Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Rd, Adams Run.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.  The casket will be placed in the church prior to the service for viewing beginning at 1 o’clock.  

26/March/2018 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A Morris Circle home received substantial damage in a mid-day fire Monday 26-March. At 11:51, 9-1-1 Operators began receiving multiple reports of the fire in the residence located at 136 Morris Circle. Engine 1 arrived minutes later to find the one story structure with heavy smoke visible and flames coming from the roof and out of several windows on both sides of the building. 25/March/2018 – Carolina Children’s Charities

Sunday wrapped up collections for the “Fill the Boot” campaign to benefit the Carolina Children’s Charity. Colleton County Firefighters joined Fire Crews throughout Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester Counties in collecting funds for the Charity. CCC assists Lowcountry children with birth defects and childhood diseases and has been in operation since 1987. All of the funds collected remain in the area to assist families of children in the four counties.  Click here for more information.

24/March/2018 – Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course

Fire-Rescue conducted two additional TCCC Training Courses at Station # 19 that ran from 21-March through 24-March. Lowcountry Emergency Responders learned how tactical operations blend with pre-hospital medicine in a combat environment. The course prepares street Medics for dynamic operations and introduces evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield.  Personnel from Colleton and surrounding counties participated. 23/March/2018 – Recruit School Graduation      

Station # 2 Firefighter Blake Drew graduated from the Bluffton Recruit School Friday 23-March. The graduation was held at Lowcountry Baptist Church in Bluffton and was sponsored by the Bluffton Fire Dept. Twenty one recruits successfully completed the 11 weeks of training. The course exceeds the NFPA Firefighter II curriculum and participants are certified as Medical First Responders, Basic Firefighter, FLAG, HazMat Ops, IFSAC Firefighter I and II and Auto Extrication. 20/March/2018 – Fatal MVC with entrapment – “B” Shift

An adult male died from injuries he sustained in a two vehicle head-on collision in the 2400 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) just north of Bedon Road Tuesday afternoon 20-March. At 13:46, 9-1-1 Dispatchers began receiving reports of the incident advising one car was overturned and one pickup truck was blocking the highway. Several callers reported the pickup truck was on fire. An off duty Fire Captain drove up on the accident shortly after it occurred. Click here for more information.

18/March/2018 – Woods Building Fire – “C” Shift

Two woods fires kept county firefighters busy Sunday afternoon 18-March. The first occurred at 164 Seigler Lane where a yard debris fire spread to an outdoor storage building and approximately one acre of woods at 14:49. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find the 10x10 storage building fully involved and the woods behind and next to the home on fire. Crews deployed multiple handlines and stop the spread of the woods fire which was endangering a mobile home on the adjacent property. Click here for more information.

18/March/2018 – MVC with entrapment & Air Evac – “C” Shift

A 24 yr. old woman was injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC in the 19000 block of Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) north of Bells Highway Sunday morning 18-March. The incident was reported at 08:02, when a passerby reported seeing a car in the ditch. Fire-Rescue units from the Station at Bells Crossroads arrived a few minutes later to the find the car with heavy damage and the woman trapped in the wreckage. Click here for more information.

15/March/2018 – HazMat Response – “C” Shift

At 17:52, Thursday afternoon 15-March, Law Enforcement was notified of a suspicious package delivered to a Law Office on Carn Street. A subject at the office had handled the package and was suffering ill effects. Firefighter-Paramedics and Fire-Rescue Haz-Mat Techs responded to the scene. Walterboro Police and Sheriff’s Deputies blocked off a portion of Carn Street for eight hours until the incident was resolved. Click here for more information.

14/March/2018 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A fire in the master bathroom of a residence at 619 Fourth Street caused heavy damage to the bathroom Wednesday morning 14-March. At 09:36 a caller to 9-1-1 reported the fire and advised the home was filling with smoke. They were able to get everyone safely out of the home. Engine 19 arrived to find smoke coming from the front door and the bathroom window of the singlewide mobile home. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline and entered through the front door. 12/March/2018 – Fatal Structure Fire – “B” Shift

An early morning house fire claimed the life of a mid-80s woman from the White Hall Community. 9-1-1 was notified of the fire at 1040 Jerusalem Road Monday morning 12-March at 06:01, when a passerby saw flames coming from the home. He stopped at a nearby residence and had them call 9-1-1. Engine 25 from the Fire Station in White Hall arrived to find the one story block structure already destroyed. 10/March/2018 – Woods Fires – “A” Shift 

Several woods fire kept firefighters busy Saturday 10-March. The largest of the fires was a multi-acre woods fire that started in the 500 block of Glen Street. The fire, which had been burning for several hours, was reported to 9-1-1 at 17:59. The first fire units to arrive reported the large fire had spread to Teka Street and behind homes on Smoak Road. Additional fire units and Tractor from the Forestry Commission were requested. Click here for more information.

10/March/2018 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A singlewide mobile home located at 84 Maybank Lane, received heavy damage in an afternoon fire Saturday 10-March. At 16:27, 9-1-1 was notified of the incident. The caller advised the mobile home was vacant and the fire came from someone burning off a nearby ditch. The ditch fire spread through the grass and involved the residence. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming through the roof. They deployed several handlines and had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 10 minutes. Click here for more information.

08/March/2018 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift 

A 66 year old Colleton County man was critically injured following an explosion in his home at 109 Caesar Lane Thursday afternoon 08-March. At 16:32 Fire-Rescue units were sent to the area of Ritter Crossroads for the report of a structure fire. There was some confusion about the location of the incident. A Sheriff’s Deputy was in the area and advised there was no fire at the reported location. He began searching the surrounding area and located the fire about a mile away on Caesar Lane off of Saxby Hill Road. Click here for more information.

05/March/2018 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A doublewide mobile home was saved from an early morning fire at 1420 Possum Corner Road Monday 05-March. At 08:30, 9-1-1 received a report of smoke coming from under the home. Engine 1 arrived to find light smoke coming from the front door and eaves. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline to the residence and located the fire in the air handler (HVAC System).
