31/May/2023 -Paramedic Promotion - "A" Shift We wish to congratulate Firefighter/Paramedic Trey Stotts on obtaining his NREMT-Paramedic Certification. Firefighter/Paramedic Stotts is assigned to the Westside Platoon on "A" Shift. |

27/May/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A duplex apartment at 5674 Ritter Road suffered heavy damage in an early morning fire Saturday 27-May. At 09:02, the occupant in apartment C smelled smoke. Upon investigation, he discovered flames coming from the front windows of apartment D. He was able to safely get his family out of his apartment and called 9-1-1. Engine 6 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions and flames coming from the front window on the west side of the building. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one handline to the building and knocked the flames down from the exterior, before entering the structure through the front door. 25/May/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift At 11:27 Thursday morning 25-May, Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire at 261 Deleoch Ave. The home had suffered a previous fire which substantially damaged the home in November of 2021. Engine 1 arrived to find flames on the eaves and roof of the building over the previously burned section. Crews deployed one handline to the building and quickly extinguished the fire. Some drop down pieces of the roof ignited the interior of the home, but it too was quickly extinguished. Click here for additional information. |

22/May/2023 - Fatal MVC - "A" Shift A Smoaks man died from injuries received after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) west of Can City Road Monday night 22-May. At 21:13, Colleton 9-1-1 was notified by Dorchester 9-1-1 of the accident. Witnesses advised the male subject on a motorcycle struck a passenger car and was thrown into the roadway. Callers advised the man was not breathing. Bystanders provided aid to the man and applied tourniquets in an attempt to control his bleeding. Click here for additional information. |

20/May/2023 - ATV MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift Two people were injured when two ATVs collided during a festival in the Johnsville Community Saturday evening 20-May. The incident was reported at 20:22 at the intersection of Johnsville Rd and Rushton Lane. Responding units were met at Johnsville Rd and Sunrise Road about two miles from the scene with a vehicle carrying a female that was injured in the accident. Firefighter-Paramedics on Medic 7 began treating the woman and requested a medical helicopter to respond. CARE Flight landed in a field on Silkhope Lane near the original location. 19/May/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a residential fire at 53 Claudia Court in Jacksonboro Friday evening 19-May at 19:01. Engine 6 arrived to find a singlewide mobile home approximately 50% involved with heavy smoke and fire visible. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building and quickly knocked down the fire, then entered the home to extinguish the remaining flames. The home suffered substantial damage and the occupants lost most of their belongings. The occupant advised he was outside when he discovered the home on fire. He had been cooking earlier. 14/May/2023 - Drowning Incident - "B" and "C" Shifts A teenage male went missing while swimming on the Edisto River at Givhans Ferry State Park in Dorchester County Sunday afternoon 14-May. Dorchester County Officials requested mutual aid for a boat and divers to assist with the search. Dorchester County responders and DNR were already on the scene. Colleton County Fire-Rescue assigned a boat, divers and several support staff to the incident. Personnel searched the river in poor weather conditions until dark. Responders remained on the scene during the night and the search was resumed Monday morning. Click here for additional information. |

09/May/2023 - Fatal MVC - "B" Shift A Ruffin woman died from injuries received after her vehicle struck a parked semi-trailer on Deliverance Rd at Big Easy Dr., Tuesday morning 09-May. At 08:10, a caller to 9-1-1 reported the accident and advised that the driver of the car was not breathing. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station 18 arrived minutes later to find the woman in cardiac arrest. Crews removed the woman from the vehicle and began resuscitative efforts. 07/May/2023 - Water Rescue - "A" Shift Fire-Rescue responded to a water rescue south of West Bank Landing on the Edisto River Sunday afternoon 07-May at 15:18. A small boat carrying three people capsized in the river dumping the three people into the water. They were wearing floatation devices. Several other boats on the river responded and pulled the people to safety, then carried them back to the landing. Two boaters also pulled the capsized boat back to the landing. 07/May/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift A smoke alarm saved a Cottageville family and alerted them to a fire in their home Sunday morning 07-May at 04:11. The family had used a grille on a wooden porch earlier in the evening. A little after 4 AM the smoke alarm inside the home woke the family. Upon investigation they found flames inside the home at the rear door and the porch on fire. They called 9-1-1 and began using a garden hose on the fire. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived quickly and deployed one handline to the home. Click here for additional information. |

05/May/23 - Entrapment - "B" Shift At 12:52 Friday afternoon 05-May, a person came to Fire Station 18 reporting a man trapped under a log trailer on Hope Lane about 1/2 mile from the station. Engine 18 and Medic 18 arrived minutes later to find an adult male with his arm crushed under a flatbed semi-trailer. The man had been performing maintenance on the trailer when it shifted and fell on him. Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the man under the trailer, which included bleeding control and pain management. A medical helicopter was requested and Meducare responded to the field in front of Bells Elementary School. Click here for additional information. |

05/May/23 - Shooting Incident - "A" Shift An 11 year old girl received two gunshot wounds in a driveby type shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Hill Street at 01:39 Friday morning 05-May. Law Enforcement was in the area investigating a similar incident that occurred about 3/4 of a mile from Hill St. Deputies heard the gunshots and were on the scene quickly. Multiple rounds were fired into an occupied residence. Two rounds struck an 11 year old girl who was in bed. Other young children were also in the home but were fortunately not injured. 04/May/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift A Johnsville Community home was destroyed in a late night fire Thursday evening 04-May. At 22:29, 9-1-1 received a third party call reporting a building on fire at the intersection of Community Ave and Strawberry Farm Road. Engine 7 arrived to find the single story block residential building fully involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple handlines to the building to extinguish the fire. The fire was under control within 25 minutes. Units were on the scene for three hours performing overhaul. Click here for additional information. |

02/May/2023 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift A two car accident sent several people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred at the intersection of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) and Sidneys Road at 14:42. One driver was trapped in the wreckage. Crews used Holmatro Rescue tools to extricate the woman from the car. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the injured at the scene, then transported them to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Click here for additional information. |

02/May/2023 - Prom Promise Demonstration Several First Responder Agencies participated in the "Prom Promise" demonstration at the Colleton County High School Tuesday morning 02-May at 10:00. The demonstration depicted an auto accident with several fatalities. A car was set up in the parking area with several student actors filling in the roles of the victims. Each victim was mulaged with simulated injuries and responders arrived to work the scene and treat the injured. Firefighter-Paramedics performed a simulated extrication and removed the doors and roof of the car, while other responders triaged the victims. Click here for additional information. |
